Le séminaire donné par les professeurs Balcet (Uni Turin), Wang (EMLyon) et Zhang (Rollins College) a constitué une introduction intéressante et complète au livre à paraître des auteurs, Geely Drives Out : The Rise of the New Chinese Automaker in the Global Landscape (World Scientific, 2021). En illustrant le cas fascinant de l'entreprise automobile montante, en le plaçant dans le contexte plus large du développement de l'industrie automobile chinoise et en analysant les défis liés à son intégration mondiale, la présentation nous a définitivement encouragés à nous emparer du volume et à en découvrir davantage.

The seminar given by Prof. Balcet (Uni Turin), Wang (EMLyon), and Zhang (Rollins College) represented an engaging and comprehensive introduction to the authors’ forthcoming book Geely Drives Out: The Rise of the New Chinese Automaker in the Global Landscape (World Scientific, 2021). By illustrating the fascinating case of the rising auto company, placing it in the wider context of the development of the Chinese automotive industry, and analysing the challenges linked to its global integration, the presentation definitely encouraged all of us to getting hold of the volume and discovering more.

THE INOVAR-AUTO PROGRAM IN BRAZIL, ITS OBJECTIVES AND THE AUTOMAKERS ADHESION

Abstract: The tax incentive policy for the Brazilian automotive sector Inovar-Auto was in effect from 2012-2017. Despite its legislative complexity, the program served, additionally to the explicit objectives, a common interest of the national automotive chain actors: the protection of the internal market in the face of imports. During the program development, other aspects interfered with its effectiveness, such as the difficulty of traceability, the questioning of WTO, and Brazil's economic and political crisis during this period. This study qualitatively analyzes the objectives of Inovar-Auto and the adhesion of the automotive industry; based on documents, secondary data, and interviews with actors from from organizations that participated in the elaboration and execution of the program. It is concluded that the program has achieved, in addition to its explicit objectives.
