Gerpisa colloquium, Brussels (2023)Abstract:
s policymakers in France and the EU seem to finally acknowledge the crucial role corporate fleets have to play in the transition, leading companies need an ambitious regulatory framework to keep investing with certainty and confidence in zero emission vehicles. It is pivotal to leverage the voice of leading businesses to ask that stated ambition is matched by action, and that supportive and ambitious policies are put in place and implemented effectively to ensure that manufacture and take up of electric vehicles happens in France swiftly and at scale. Through France Case Study, this session will highlight the policies needed to support corporate fleet electrification and drive an inclusive transition towards net-zero road transport.
Key points:
• An increasing number of companies with fleets are committed to the EV transition, including the 130 EV100 members. Companies recognise the transition is underway and accelerating and see cost benefits of switching to electric for most use cases as well as the environmental imperative for action now to reduce carbon emissions from road transport.
• The EU is leading the world in EV take up, second only to China. EV adoption will only increase with a clear regulatory direction now in place following confirmation in March that only zero CO2 emissions new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles will be sold in the EU from 2035.
• However, for committed companies, significant barriers remain around affordability and availability of ZEVs in the varieties and volumes required. There is much more to be done to ensure that there is adequate charging infrastructure in place.
• A range of supportive, ambitious, well implemented policies are needed to address these challenges and ensure that manufacture and full and rapid adoption of electric vehicles happens across all EU member states.
• Through a France Case Study, drawing on conversations with EV100’s French member companies, we will highlight the specific policies needed in France to support corporate fleet electrification and drive an inclusive transition towards net-zero road transport.
• A range of supportive, ambitious, well implemented policies are needed to address these challenges and ensure that manufacture and full and rapid adoption of electric vehicles happens across all EU member states.
