Abstract:

The sharp economic downturn of 2008/2009 resulted in substantial declines in light vehicle sales and production in Europe and North America. This paper utilizes detailed plant-level production data for North America and Europe to investigate how the recession impacted the footprint of vehicle production in both regions.
