Abstract:

Based on German research on work policy issues and around 30 interviews with work policy experts from different plants in the German car industry, the paper will:
(1) give an overview over what is going on in the field of production concepts and work policy in the German car industry;
(2) outline how works councils look at the present situation and how they try to influence work organisation issues;
(3) provide some ideas, what can be done - from a German perspective - to foster innovative work policy.
