Résumé

The 2020 Colloquium will be a joint event, co-organized and co-sponsored with PMVI, the Program on Vehicle and Mobility Innovation based at Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania and directed by John Paul MacDuffie. It will focus on the major transformations that are shaping the global automotive industry, ranging from digitalization, autonomy, electrification, shared mobility, industry 4.0, to trade wars and global value chain dynamics. The event will consist of three days of academic sessions combined with industry and policy plenaries.

Informations

The four day program includes:

Monday, June 8th:
  • Morning: Visit US Environmental Protection Agency vehicle testing facility and University of Michigan autonomous vehicle testing facility (Mcity)
  • Afternoon: Opening Conference Session (box lunch) and two breakout sessions of four research tracks each
  • Evening: Cocktails
 Tuesday, June 9th:
  • Morning: One breakout session of four research tracks and a plenary session focusing on the Detroit Nexus in Global R&D.
  • Afternoon: Lunch, two breakout sessions of four research tracks each.
  • Evening: Cocktails at the University of Michigan Art Museum
 Wednesday, June 10th:
  • Morning: One breakout session of four research tracks and a plenary session focusing on the Future of Labor and Vehicle Production
  • Afternoon: Lunch, one breakout session of four research tracks, and a plenary session focusing on the role of regulation in shaping technological change.
 Thursday, June 11th:
  • Morning: Bus from Ann Arbor to the Federal Reserve Bank in Detroit for two plenary sessions with industry and academic leaders on the topics of Digitalization is Here! and Challenges and Opportunities of the New Mobility Paradigm.
  • Afternoon: Lunch with concluding remarks, and bus to the North American International Auto Show

  • Evening: Gala dinner at Henry Ford's first auto factory in Detroit, the Piquette Plant, and bus back to Ann Arbor
  • Colloquium Concludes
Additional Tour: Friday, June 12th
  • Morning: Bus to Dearborn, Michigan from Ann Arbor to tour the Henry Ford Museum and Dearborn truck plant
 
Parking:
For people who drive to the colloquium, there will be parking at the venue for $10 (cash) per day.
 
Hotel Information:
Local hotels are holding blocks of rooms for our colloquium until May 7th:
  • Microtel: 1.2 miles from the colloquium venue with a free shuttle to the venue (~$60-$90 per night): Contact Joy Humbarger at joyhumbarger@microtelannarbor.com and use the code GERPISA.
  • DoubleTree Ann Arbor North: 1.2 miles from the colloquium venue with a free shuttle to the venue (~$150 per night). Contact Denise Warwick at dwarwick@hiannarbor.com and ask for the rate for the GERPISA group (Code GPA).
  • Bell Tower Hotel: 3 miles from the colloquium venue with bus service to the venue (~ $189 per night, including breakfast): use the code 361994 to register https://www.belltowerhotel.com/
  • Graduate Hotel: 3 miles from the colloquium venue with bus service to the venue (~$250 per night): https://www.graduatehotels.com/ann-arbor/ . The Graduate is not holding rooms for us, but it is on Central Campus and very close to the downtown area.
There are many other hotels and Airbnb's in Ann Arbor, but they tend to be further from the colloquium venue (bus access may not be direct to the venue). The four hotels above have easy/direct access to buses and shuttles. The Microtel and DoubleTree are on North Campus, farther away from the downtown area, while the Bell Tower Hotel and the Graduate Hotel are directly on Central Campus, very close to the downtown area.
