It is observed worldwide a tendency of growth in the number of recalls; as well as the quantity of products involved in each campaign. It is assumed that these facts are associated with the greater control established by the governments, added to the greater legal punishments imposed to the manufacturers when they do not spontaneously inform the defects of security in their products or even delay in doing so. A recall is made when it is discovered or suspected that defects may impair the performance and / or safety of products or services. As a rule, a recall must reach all its consumers, including those who have not yet had any problems associated with the defect. In recent years, large companies in the automotive industry have passed enormous financial losses due to serious quality problems related to their products, culminating in the loss of human life and the closing of companies responsible for these events, which lead to other social problems, such as the unemployment of its employees. During 2007, a study was carried out on patterns and trends in motor vehicle safety recalls in the United Kingdom. For this, a data set was used based on 23.1 million vehicles registered between 1992 and 2002. It was found in this study that 10.8 million vehicles were recalled, representing 47% of all vehicle registrations in the United Kingdom in the period. Changes in the forms of communication and interaction of society lead to a growing interest in knowledge of quality defects in products and services, especially in serious failures that may endanger the physical integrity of people. Following the same trend, there is an increase in interest in the subject in the academic area, with a consistent growth in the number of studies related to the recall. In the year of 2013, the direct effect of the recall on future accidents and the future indirect effect on the reliability of the product for the years 1985 to 2013 were tested for the United States automobile industry. Later, continuing the work, the effect of the severity of the problem associated with the recall in the United States, and the time required for its initiation, considering the years 2000 to 2017. Companies are susceptible to variability in product quality, and even if it is not desired, there are flaws that go beyond internal quality assurance barriers. For this, a comparative study is developed for the recalls in the automotive sector comprising Brazil, the European Union and the United States of America. In this work, data are analyzed from these localities, developing a comparative study between the volume of motor vehicles produced and the number of vehicles involved in recall. The purpose of this work is to benefit the society by taking knowledge of the number of vehicles in use, which can endanger the life and physical integrity of the people who interact with them. It is also intended to demonstrate the need to apply new tools to reduce recall; or even the systematization of the use of existing tools such as FTA (fault tree analysis) and FMEA (failure mode effect analysis) in an effective way, motivating the companies to use policies of reduction of defects, quality problems of their products and a consequent reduction in the risk to the physical integrity of the people.
