Abstract:

The present issue of the Actes du GERPISA summarizes the main results of the fourth GERPISA international research programme (2004-08) on Variey of capitalism and diversity of productive models. This programme is associated with the European Socio-Economic Models of a Knowledge-based society (ESEMK) project (CIT2-CT-2004-506077), supported by the European Union within the Sixth Framework Programme. It concludes the programme started in 2004 (see Actes du GERPISA n°38) which discusses the articulation between the macro, meso and micro levels of analysis.

This issue contains two papers:

  •  ESEMK: Main findings and conclusion, which is a short abstract of our results.
  •  ESEMK: Synthesis and policy implication, which is the final Deliverable (D7) sent to the European Commission.

The automobile industry was not at the core of the project. Our aim was to better understand interactions between the macro-institutional environment, dynamics of industry and firms’ strategies, which led us to more general approaches. Nevertheless, interesting comparative studies have been realized within this project on the European automobile sector, mainly regarding the distribution issues and the labour relationships.

Within the new (5th) international research programme on sustainable development of the automobile industry (director: Bernard JULLIEN), GERPISA network will focus again on the auto industry, considering its economic, social and environmental dimensions.
