This paper will investigate the beginning integration of Cambodia into automotive supply chain networks within the ASEAN region. It will be documented how foreign – mostly Japanese – automotive companies utilise Cambodia as a production, or better intermediate processing base for their operations within ASEAN. To this end, it will also be described why companies choose to locate facilities in the country. While Cambodia does not possess a developed automotive industry of its own, the development must be analysed against the background of the economic integration of the ASEAN region under the so-called ASEAN Economic Community (AEC).
