The Meeting of the "Employment Relations" Group in Madrid, 21st-23rd April 1995.

The Madrid meeting only included European researchers, with other group members to present their papers at the "Third International Meetings" in Paris in June.

The papers presented on the employment relationship at Renault, Rover, Vauxhall, Fiat, FASA, Mercedes, Volkswagen, Saab and Volvo revealed the relevance of the object the group has defined to study, as well as the analytical framework it had defined previously. The choice of systematic comparison on the basis of an interpretive framework has begun to bear fruit, and (provisional) conclusions seem possible: an interpretation in terms of models will be presented for debate in June on the basis of the European cases.

Moreover, the central themes regarding the organization of work, the roles of leaders and front-line supervisors, the functions of team work, the meaning of autonomy and the democratization of work, etc., were all discussed and will be discussed again in June.
