La lettre du GERPISA no 110 (févier 1997)

Programme News

The GERPISA Budgetand the Second International Programme.

The executive GERPISA secretariat has adopted the budget for 1997. It was done on the basis of definite resources, which at the moment are: the unspent money carried forward from 1996, the grant from the Ministry of Education, the PSA and Renault contributions, the grant from Evry University, the returned VAT, which gives a total of 647,000 fr, give or take a few francs.

The following are the estimated expenses which were established for 1997:

7 work days in France 30,000
English Translation of 10 GERPISA La Lettre 40,000
5th International Colloquium 100,000
8th&9th International Steering Committee Meeting 70,000
Documentation 35,000
Reading Material (fiches de lecture) 20,000
Photocopying 20,000
Telephone 15,000
Supplies 4,500
Miscellaneous 5,000
Equipment 16,000
Missions and research expenses of the permanent GERPISA team 20,000
Translations which still need to be done on books from the first programme 201,000
Money available for French translations 70,000
Total 647,000

As was the case last year, all expenses will not be taken care of by GERPISA. Those taking part in the fifth colloquium will finance their trip themselves. Invitations were sent at the beginning of January so that network members can ask their institutions for the necessary financial aid. GERPISA will take care of midday meals, simultaneous translation and the general expenses of the colloquium. The registration fee will be lower than it was last year, and will correspond to the cost of Les Actes de la Rencontre. The budget does not enable us to foresee any international work groups in Spring 1997. However, during the year we hope to get supplementary funds which would allow us to programme such meetings in the Autumn. One or two new manufacturers could join Renault and PSA to support GERPISA activities. We have applied to the European union for aid on the basis of the "Euroconferences", for three years (1997-1999) amounting to 980,000 fr. We will have an answer in July 1997.

The International Steering Committee Meeting in November 1996 accepted the principle that non-European researchers would finance their programme activities and particularly their attendance at colloquiums and international meetings. Professor Koichi Shimokawa took the initiative of forming a group of researchers for South-East Asia. Jean-Jacques Chanaron is creating a network of researchers in Eastern Europe, and is studying the possibility of getting European financing for scientific exchange with these countries. Mario Salerno, Yannick Lung, Juan-Jose Castillo and Jorge Carrillo are preparing an Alfa project to finance exchange with Latin American researchers. We still need to find a solution for American and Canadian researchers.
